Happy New Year from all in reception.
We have all settled back in to school after Christmas and everybody is working hard. Our topic this term is Weather and we have had lots of fun making snowy day pictures using all sorts of skills including painting, printing and cutting and sticking. We have also been investigating ice and finding out what makes it melt. The children enjoyed blowing holes in ice cubes using straws. We have more exciting art and science work planned.
The children have daily letters and sounds lessons which include lots of games and activities. We look forward to welcoming parents to a workshop to show you how we teach reading and writing in the Early Years.
We have been reading some lovely books in class from the Oxford reading Tree. They are called ‘First story rhymes’ and they inspire our writing. In maths we are becoming familiar with numbers to 20 and beginning to add using different methods.
As always the children have many ongoing activities to choose from throughout the day, some of which have challenges built into them, and these all help to progress their learning across the early years Foundation stage.
Please make sure that your child has their PE kit in school fully labelled and that ear rings are removed for PE lessons on Thursdays and Fridays.
