Year 1 are working as hard as ever! Everyone is full of enthusiasm for all the new work we are doing.
In English we have been reading traditional stories from Africa. We have used these ideas to write our own counting stories with animals in. We have painted some fantastic African themed paintings. We are going to be looking at poems that rhyme and how to write a set of instructions. In Science we are finding out about what things are made out of. We are going to look at different materials and the words that describe them. We are also looking at the seasons. If you go for a walk get your child to talk to you about Winter and see if you can spot any signs of Spring in the next month. In maths we are using numbers up to 40. We will be doing lots of counting – forwards and backwards, talking about and using tens and units and looking for patterns to help fill in missing numbers. We will be counting in 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s. We will also be looking at adding and taking away, measuring, fractions and shapes.
