Happy New Year!
The children have made a great start to the new term. In English, we have been reading the magical story ‘Winter’s Child’ by Angela McAllister. The children have really enjoyed learning and discussing the book. This week they have planned their own story about ‘Summer’s Child’ and we would love for you to come in and read their stories once they are finished.
In Maths this half term the children are learning different methods for addition and subtraction. We are also learning how to solve problem solving activities. For homework I would like them to continue to practise their x3 and x4 tables. They have a test every Thursday where the aim is to increase accuracy and speed.
This half term’s topic is ‘Europe’. We have already been polka dancing in Poland. This week we are visiting France where the children will be learning about famous abstract artists and using some of their different techniques. After that, we will be off to Russia for the World Cup! Through the topic, the children will be developing their geographical knowledge and understanding of different cultures.
After half term, we will be travelling through the ages learning about the Middle Stone Age to the Iron Age. Year 3 will learn all about the people and their way of life during these times. Our learning will aim to provide children with experiences of living through the ages with the use of natural materials to create their own cave drawings and an opportunity to use clay.
P.E lessons will be on a Tuesday and Friday up until half term. Please make sure you have a full P.E kit in school and that your hair is tied back and earrings are removed. After half term, the children will start swimming on Friday morning; more details will be sent out shortly.
